Plot

The story begins in the late 1700s. Hawaii is divided into four warring kingdoms: Oʻahu, Maui, Kauaʻi, and Hawaiʻi Island. Kaʻiana (Jason Momoa) is a warrior chief from Kauaʻi. He lives in exile after leaving Maui’s violent king, Kahekili (Temuera Morrison). Kahekili calls Kaʻiana back to fight Oʻahu. He claims it is for defense, but it is really for power .

Kaʻiana leads the attack but soon realizes Kahekili’s cruelty. He sees innocent people killed. Betrayed, Kaʻiana flees and is branded a traitor. He ends up on a British ship. There, he learns about guns and foreign ways. He meets Tony (James Udom), a runaway slave who teaches him English. Kaʻiana decides to bring weapons back to Hawaii. He wants to protect his people from colonizers and greedy rulers .

Meanwhile, Kamehameha (Kaina Makua) rises as a leader. Many believe he is the prophesied king who will unite Hawaii. Kaʻiana joins his cause. But they face enemies like Keōua (Cliff Curtis), who wants power for himself. The season ends with battles, betrayals, and a cliffhanger for future seasons .
